Scott grew up in the Northland. He attended North Kansas City School District schools, graduating from Oak Park High School in 1989. He then worked his way through college, spending his senior year working at the Clay County Economic Development Corporation. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in History, Business and Economics.
In 2003, Scott married his wife, Laura, moving from the Northland to start a family in Kansas City's Historic Northeast area. In addition to having their two sons, Patrick and Truman, Scott became very involved in the community, serving on several area boards. Scott currently is serving his third term as president of the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association. He also serves on the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City Museum Advisory Board, the Northeast Community Center Steering Committee, the Don Bosco Center and Neighbor To Neighbor.
Scott began his life in public service as a volunteer with Teaching & Reaching Youth, a Northland program that supported high school students live healthy lifestyles, without drugs and alcohol.
Scott continued his public service for organizations all over the Kansas City area. Scott’s volunteer work included terms as Board Chairman for agencies including the Stop Violence Coalition and the Coro Kansas City Internship Program.
Scott's breadth of community experience has given him a unique perspective on the issues facing the 1st District and the entire City.
Scott is currently a board member of the Greater Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association and the Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation along with other organizations in the Historic Northeast area. He is also a member of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club 13.
Scott’s work has resulted in improvements to the Northeast’s parks including Budd Park, Cliff Drive and soon to be seen improvements to Maple Park; the formation of Soccer Leagues in the area that have over 700 children participating, renovation of the Kansas City Museum and the groundbreaking on the first phase of the Northeast Community Center and over $1 million in other infrastructure improvements.
Scott’s career in marketing took off when from 1995 through 1999 Scott helped renew interest in the River Market as Marketing & Promotions Director of The City Market. In that capacity Scott was responsible for executing over 200 events, promoting the market year round, promoting the market’s small businesses and creating lasting community partnerships that today has resulted in a vibrant community.
Scott next branched out on his own, starting Wagner Marketing in November 1999. For the next 7 ½ years Scott helped a variety of small businesses gain new customers and success.
With the birth of their second son, and Laura at the helm of Wagner Marketing, Scott went to work as an Account Executive and Director of Public Relations for Fasone & Partners, Inc., a local marketing agency in Kansas City, for two and a half years, returning to the company he founded at the beginning of 2010 to begin his campaign in earnest.
Through Scott's work in the public sector and as a small business owner and neighborhood leader, he understands that improvement can only happen when businesses can grow and residents feel safe and secure in their own neighborhood.
Scott hopes to use his experience and passion for community to protect the interests of the 1st District and make policy decisions that will benefit all Kansas Citians.
